Press On

There’s a course that must be finished,
there’s a race that must be run.
There’s a mission to accomplish,
and a battle to be won!
We’ve been called to take the challenge
by God’s might and through His Son;
He will give us grace to complete the race,
moving forward, pressing on.

Chorus: Toward the hope of our high calling,
toward the promise we’ve received,
with the strength that we’ve been given
pressing on to victory!
And toward the One who’s run before us,
as we lay each weight aside,
‘Til the race is run, ’til the prize is won,
’til we reach the finish line, Press on!

There’s a faithful cloud of witnesses
who inspire us in our task.
They have fought the fight, they have run the race,
they have won the crown at last!
And the lives they’ve lived remind us
though the race at times seems long,
God will give the grace to complete the race,
and the courage to press on.

Check out "Evolution, a Fairytale for Grownups"

"The focus of the Fairytale website is to present a satirical look at the fairy tale of molecules-to-man evolution, demonstrating via graphical presentations the silliness an evolutionist must resort to in order to reconcile science with his faith in evolution." Here is one of the episodes:

"OK, this isn't a whale, but this wolf-like creature is supposedly the whale's great, great, great, great, ... great granddaddy! The evolutionist must make this leap of faith because the whale is a mammal. Evolutionists believe that certain fish a long time ago learned to walk out of the water and eventually evolved into mammals. Since there are mammals such as whales in the water, they were forced to postulate that a few of the land mammals became homesick and returned to the water and became whales! Wow!"

There is also the Fairytale Forum, a place for honesteducationalcivil, and fun debate on the topic of origins. Be encouraged, you Young Earth Creationists out their who believe that the Bible is historically and scientifically accurate.

Finally, if you are interested in participating in the forum, look at this great post by Fred Williams, Fairytale website founder. His number one warning to Christians is this: do not let evolutionists lead you into endless arguments that will only serve to waste your time where it can be better spent elsewhere.  We know from the Bible that “we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.” (Ephesians 6:12) One of the tactics of the enemy is to get you to waste your time. So please keep this in mind as you pick your battles.

Resistant Bacteria a Product of Evolution? No - Designed to Adapt!

Antibiotics are tiny chemicals that can kill bacteria, and their use can wipe out almost all the individuals of a bacterial population. How do bacteria acquire antibiotic resistance?

In a recent study, investigators determined the mechanisms behind methicillin resistance in a strain of common skin bacteria.1 The antibiotic methicillin kills by attaching to a certain site on bacterial ribosomes, jamming their activity. Ribosomes are molecular machines required to build proteins.

In the wild strain of these bacteria, a protein named RlmN adds a methyl group to carbon number two of the 2503rd ribosomal nucleic acid. Thus, RlmN helps assemble the ribosome, which in turn assembles other proteins, including RlmN.

But in the resistant strain, a very similar protein named Cfr adds the methyl group to carbon number eight instead. This tiny shift keeps methicillin from “clogging” the ribosome and ultimately destroying the bacterium. The resistant bacteria have Cfr and they can therefore continue to survive, although their less-efficient ribosomes manufacture proteins more slowly.

In the researchers’ scenario, RlmN supposedly evolved into Cfr. But the actual changes from RlmN to Cfr involved a loss of information!2 RlmN had some flexible regions that ensured that the methyl group was added to carbon number two. Cfr no longer has these regions. That’s no help to big-picture evolution, which must account for the origin of all the critical spatial and “electrostatic surface potential” distributions in these proteins—without any intelligent source.1

Adaptive programming, not evolution, appears to be responsible for the ability of these bacteria to survive in methicillin. These bacteria are designed to adapt, designed by a living Creator God!

Istanbul: From zero to 30 Christian fellowships in 30 years

Istanbul's population is officially 12 million. A Christian friend writes, "When I first came in 1979, there were less than a dozen Muslim background believers. By the early 1990's there were only four or five fellowships. But now I can count up to about thirty, and quite a few of these are Turkish-led by Muslim background believers."

Thank the Lord for the ongoing work of His Kingdom in this enormous city.

Evolutionists can't get around the Laws of Thermodynamics

The First Law of Thermodynamics states that the creation or annihilation of matter/energy is impossible, yet here we are. Obviously, the origin of anything cannot have been solely by today’s natural processes.

Likewise, the Second Law of Thermodynamics holds that nature cannot self-organize, and yet both life and inanimate matter are highly complex. Therefore, an organizing process different than today’s degenerative processes must have acted.

To choose unguided, unthinking, impotent nature as the organizer and selector remains a choice of faith—but that of an inferior faith, indeed!

(excerpted from John D. Morris, The Language of Evolution, Acts & Facts, July 2011, Institute for Creation Research)

Evolutionists say Energy overcomes the Second Law

To create any kind of upward, complex organization in a closed system requires outside energy and outside information. Evolutionists maintain that the 2nd Law of Thermodynamics does not prevent Evolution on Earth, since this planet receives outside energy from the Sun. Thus, they suggest that the Sun's energy helped create the life of our beautiful planet. However, is the simple addition of energy all that is needed to accomplish this great feat?

Compare a living plant with a dead one. Can the simple addition of energy make a completely dead plant live?

A dead plant contains the same basic structures as a living plant. It once used the Sun's energy to temporarily increase its order and grow and produce stems, leaves, roots, and flowers - all beginning from a single seed.

If there is actually a powerful Evolutionary force at work in the universe, and if the open system of Earth makes all the difference, why does the Sun's energy not make a truly dead plant become alive again (assuming a sufficient supply of water, light, and the like)?

What actually happens when a dead plant receives energy from the Sun? The internal organization in the plant decreases; it tends to decay and break apart into its simplest components. The heat of the Sun only speeds the disorganization process!

Middle Eastern college students pressured to quit Bible Studies

Students at one university in the Middle East have suddenly stopped attending informal Bible studies, even though there had been steady interest and good attendance. It appears that pressure from university or government officials has made them afraid to participate.

Pray that such leaders will instead allow genuine intellectual and religious freedom.

Baptism makes waves in Ireland

God made history last September in Youghal, Ireland, a mostly Catholic city. Citizens in boats lined the river's beach to watch, loudspeakers broadcast to the city, two national newspapers reported the event - the first submersion baptism that ever occurred in Youghal.

No fewer than five people were involved in the chain of events that led to the baptism of this Irish believer. A teenager visited a youth group, and then invited her mom to attend the evangelical church. Then the mom invited her son, who brought his friend who was about to go to jail for repeated incidents of drunken violence. This son invited his father, Philip, to go with him.

Philip has heart problems, his wife has health problem, his other son has a learning disability. Life felt overwhelmingly hopeless, and Philip didn't know where to turn. He went to the CrossWorld church plant in Youghal (pronounced "y'all"). Philip listened intently to the sermon on 1st John. It was the first Bible teaching he had heard in his life.

"I have to go back and see what happens next," Philip thought.

He made friends with a Cross World worker who gave him a 30-day Daily Bread devotional. At the end of it, he read, "Is there any reson why you wouldn't believe in Jesus?" Philip felt God telling him to believe, so he prayed the prayer on the back of the pamphlet, surrendering his life to Jesus.

That surrender marked the start of a new life. The CrossWorld worker led Philip through the booklet Growing in Christ, and Philip raced through it, finishing all13 lessons in a few weeks. Philip also volunteered with the church to hand out Christian literature at a local festival. While there, he fearlessly shared his newfound truth with friends and neighbors. Five months after Philip's first visit, he was baptized: the first immersion baptism ever recorded in Youghal.

Although Philip's life situation is the same - he and his wife still have health problems and both of his sons still struggle - he sees life differently. He has a new sense of peace and hope, as well as resources and a supportive church to help him handle the hardships.

Those around him have noticed the change. Although at first his neighbors criticized Philip for leaving the Catholic church, they have now started asking him for prayer! They recognize that he has something they don't. Likewise, Philip's wife has asked him to do a Bible study with her because she wants the same hope she sees in him.

Praise God for planting new life in Philip, and pray that Philip's neighbors and family will find his same hope.

Muslim pirates have attacked 200 ships so far in 2011

Every month, some 1,300 ships heading to or from the Suez Canal must pass through the lawless waters off the coast of Somalia. Pirate attacks are at an all-time high - more than 200 have already been reported this year. As of May, pirates were holding more than 500 hostages and 26 hijacked ships, and companies are losing up to $8.3 billion a year.

Cargo ships are easy prey, and with an area the size of the continental U.S. to patrol, even NATO and navy teams from several coastal countries can't protect every vessel. Bypassing the canal means a journey of thousands more miles around the Horn of Africa. The United Nations International Maritime Organization advises ships t speed up through high-risk areas, add more lookouts, and try other low-tech solutions that are not always effective against pirates with AK-47s and rocket-propelled grenades. Arming merchant ships with lethal weapons might solve the pirate problem, but that approach would never gain international acceptance.

New nonlethal defenses, however, offer an alternative. BAE Systems is developing an onboard laser that could target unidentified vessels from more than a mile away. If the pirates continued to approach, the beam's intensity would disorient and temporarily lind them to the point that they couldn't aim and fire their own weapons. BAE tested a prototype of the laser in January.

Mace Security International, meanwhile, is testing a ship-mounted spraying system to keep pirates from boarding vessels. Three sets of 18-gallon pressurized tanks filled with oleoresin capsicum, a pepper derivative that is neither corrosive or flammable, would line the ship's perimeter. Attackers who ventured too close would be doused and immediately incapacitated for up to an hour by intensely burning eyes, skin and throat.

Marko comments: most people say that these Muslim pirates are lawless. But are they following Sharia law?

Evolution's "Tree of Life" doesn't work for Trees!

Tom Hennigan and Jerry Bergman explain how the story of trees evolving from single-cell ancestors is not supported by the fossil evidence. In fact, ancient tree fossils and even their seeds are nearly identical to modern trees. Many polystrate tree fossils have been found that span across up to twelve different rock layers, how could that be if the rock layers were millions of years apart? The best theory that explains the origin of trees is what God himself tells us in the Bible, that He created trees on Day 3 of the creation week!

Selections from The Origin of Trees, by Tom Hennigan and Jerry Bergman

(These selections by Marko Malyj are of the article published in Creation Research Society Quarterly Journal, Volume 47, Number 4, Spring 2011)

The Genesis account suggests that trees are discontinuous from other vegetational growth forms and did not originate from simpler precursors. Trees were created on Day 3 according to their kinds, or baramin (Gen. 1:11–12; 1:29; 2:9; 2:16), and Genesis chapters 6–9 revealed a historic worldwide Flood that helps explain the world’s massive graveyards. It is upon this foundation that creationists can develop scientific models of the origin of trees and fossil strata.

Problems with Naturalistic Explanations for Tree Evolution

Cretaceous Pinecones
are just like modern ones.
One classic text on tree evolution included illustrations of a large number of ancient trees are nearly identical to fully modern trees, and none indicate evidence for tree evolution (Berry, 1923). Even the seeds of ancient trees are virtually indistinguishable from their modern counterparts. Professor Berry wrote that his large collection of pinecones from the Lower Cretaceous are morphologically “almost exactly like those of the existing redwood [trees that are]… found in abundance in the coulees of the present arid badlands of Western Dakota” (Berry, 1923, p. 41).

The Wollemi Pine, a so-called
"living fossil," does not support
evolutionary fossil predictions.
Another example, the Wollemi pine, was thought to have gone extinct with the dinosaurs until it was discovered several years ago in Australia (Bardell, 2006; Wieland, 2003, pp 8–9). The Wollemi pine was long thought to be extinct for 200 million years. Scientists concluded that it is marvelous it is marvelous that the Wollemi pine has survived unchanged for 200 million years, but in fact it is only one of thousands of so-called living fossils known today.

Do you prefer the Traditional or Modern
"Tree of Life"
for Trees?
For the above reasons, the “evolution of trees can only be diagrammatically represented in the most tentative way” (Johnson, 1971, pp. 24–25). Although taxonomy and phylogeny have both progressed since Darwin’s day, continuity of trees arising from single-cell precursors through evolutionary processes has not been supported by the fossil evidence (e.g., Johnson, 1973, p. 24).

Tree Origins and the Fossil Record

Instead of interpreting the rock strata as moving through billions of years of time, creationists interpret them an effect of a global Flood (Genesis 6–9). If a great Flood occurred, then billions of fossils would have been produced and evidence of vast continental sedimentation and upheaval would be common (Snelling, 2008).

Rather than being interpreted as an early primitive tree, lycopod anatomy is better understood as an arboreal plant designed to thrive in an aquatic ecosystem. Scheven further hypothesized that at the outset of the Flood, this large biome was torn apart and left to drift. As the Flood receded, these massive mats were buried under large amounts of sediment, producing much of the Carboniferous strata observed today. The burial of these massive log mats was also consistent with a creationist explanation for coal formation on a global scale(Austin, 1979).

A Polystrate fossil tree.
Polystrate tree and animal fossils have been found erect and at various angles with fossils varying 6–9 meters long and intersecting two to twelve different strata (Rupke, 1966). These trees are commonly just as well preserved at the bottom as they are at the top and their internal microscopic structure is often well preserved, indicating that they were buried quickly and sealed off from decay organisms. Two of the many global example locations are the Joggins formation in Nova Scotia and Gingko Petrified Forest State Park in Washington.

In general, creationists predict that all major tree families were present in their respective environments since the beginning and that evidence such as the polystrate trees found in Washington will continue to be found.

Complex Biochemical Systems

Many evolutionists have been forced to conclude that trees have evolved several times from many ancestors through convergent evolution (Ennos, 2001, p.5).

Cell Chloroplasts are beyond human
ingenuity, they require an intelligent
designer!
Consider the photosynthetic system in the chloroplasts that trees depend on daily (Figure 11). This system breaks up water molecules into hydrogen and oxygen (Sarfati, 2008, p. 125).This irreducibly complex photosynthesis process will not function unless the entire system is in place. Such a system could not be produced in stages by neo-Darwinian processes once, let alone several times through the many common ancestors of the variety of plants existing today.

Conclusions

The first trees existing in the fossil record were clearly trees. Furthermore, an enormous gap exists between trees and all other plant forms. When the fossil record is critically examined, the origin of trees is consistent with the Biblical record. Building our scientific understanding helps us to better understand our world and the one who created it.

Are any of you soldiers not a Muslim?

During his basic training in the Turkish army, the young man's commander addressed all the troops and asked if anyone was not a Muslim. This young brother raised his hand in front of them all. Before recently entering military service in Turkey, he had his ID card changed from Muslim to  Christian. Of course the officer knew his status beforehand, but this put it out in the open.

Ask the Lord to protect this young brother from harassment and abuse during his 15 months of mandatory service. Pray that instead of being targeted he'll be favored by others and will have numerous opportunities to share his love for Christ.

The Knowing God website

The "Knowing God" website, is a fresh new source for people wishing to learn more about God. When you visit "Knowing God", you can request follow-up from someone who cares. For example, during April 2011, a ministry in Poland using the site had 33 thousand first time visits, over 5 thousand people accepted Jesus as their savior, and 465 requested follow-up. The website was developed by a French evangelical ministry.

The word "God" or "Jesus" is typed into Google's search engine more than 70 million times every day! All over the world people want to know more about God. When people search for Him on the Internet, more and more are finding them at Knowing God.

People desiring to know more are directed to the five-week "Why Jesus?" program, where they go through 5 lessons with their "e-coach." They are invited to meet their e-coach and fellow students in forums and chat rooms. The relationships bring "graduates" together in small groups and ultimately a local church.

The five-week course, now translated in more than ten languages, is part of a "stepping stone strategy". The diagram illustrates how the program helps seekers find their way to God. It also helps Christians leave their comfort zone and come alongside seekers to find their way to Christ.

The left side illustrates the "Land without God." People on this side know little or nothing about the other side. They do not realize how relevant this new life in Jesus is, either for their lives today or for their eternal lives. They feel comfortable even though they may struggle with life's questions. That's where we come along side to help them find answers and lead them to Jesus Christ.

It's exciting to see fresh, new tools being used to communicate the age-old, unchanging message of Jesus and the Cross.

Saudi Arabia is hell for Christian guest workers from Philippines

Saudi Arabia religious police.
Many foreign workers in Saudi Arabia who are Christians refer to Saudi Arabia as "hell," not because of its hot deserts but because of its anti-Christian spiritual climate. Church buildings are not allowed, and guest workers who meet in apartments are sometimes raided by the Mutaween, Saudi Arabia's religious police. Decades ago, it was possible to visit a home in Saudi Arabia where a beautiful choir of Filipino Christians was singing. But today, Filipinos, Indians, and other foreign Christians are sometimes beaten, imprisoned and expelled by those who have a devilish hatred of Jesus Christ.

Genesis matters because it is vital to knowing God

You cannot really know God until you rightly understand Genesis. That's a powerful claim, but one worth considering.

If God designed the Bible to consist of 66 books, and ensured that His revelation was complete and unified and without error in every word in those 66 books, then we must be careful not to dismiss any statement or any book that God divinely inspired for us to read and study.

God did not reveal His Word in a haphazard way; there is marvelous, perfect unity from beginning to end. Nor did God wait around to see what ancient peoples wrote before He inspired the writers of the Bible. The lordship, power, and omniscience of the triune God are plainly presented from the very first pages of Genesis.

Genesis 1:1 is clearly one of the greatest apologetics in all of Scripture, for if we stumble here, we cannot, or will not, appreciate God in the rest of the Bible. Accepting God as Creator demands our acceptance of Him as Judge, and that is exactly why many refuse to acknowledge that God exists, for doing so obligates them to deal with their sin before a righteous Judge.

Of course, this is not to say that one cannot know enough about God to receive His gift of salvation should one only know, for instance, a gospel presentation from the Book of John or Romans. Many millions have been saved with just portions of Scripture.

However, suggesting that it's okay to remove the book of Genesis - or at least the first eleven chapters - from importance in our study of the Bible is to demote this portion of Scripture from the level of divine inspiration, or to denigrate the ability of God to communicate clearly on important matters that deal with the very identity and attributes of a holy, purposeful, and compassionate God.

If Genesis doesn't matter - if God didn't want us to know Him through the book of Genesis - then He would have left it out of the Bible entirely.

Hundreds of Orphans accept Jesus at New Hope camp

In Moldova and Ukraine, hundred of orphans are at camp and God is at work in the kids, foster parents and the staff of New Hope International in amazing ways. In the beginning of July, Moldova had 200 orphan teens at camp from 10 different orphanages. 170 of them made a commitment to follow Christ!

The orphan camps demand extra time and effort from New Hope's staff and volunteers involved. Pray that many lives will be changed by God's power and for follow-up activities to result in further growth and the joining of youth clubs and churches where possible.

VOM adds Israel to its Christian Persecution watch

Please pray for protection and freedom of worship in Israel for followers of Jesus! Voice of the Martyrs, an organization helping persecuted Christians around the world, has often covered cases of harassment and even murder in countries like Iran, Indonesia, Vietnam, Columbia, and Cuba. In their July 2011 newsletter they have recognized that in Israel, too, both Christians and Messianic Jews have frequently come under attack mainly at the hands of ultra-Orthodox Jewish groups.

VOM mentions that the Jeruslaem Alliance Church was burned in late October 2010, and that the church was near an ultra-Orthodox neighborhood.

Here is more information, from Ryan Jones' article Jerusalem church fire blamed on Jews, in Israel Today Magazine, November 1, 2010:

"The Jerusalem Alliance Church, part of the global Christian & Missionary Alliance (C&MA), was built in 1914 on the edge of what is now the ultra-Orthodox Jewish neighborhood of Mea Shearim. Ten church staff had to be evacuated as the fire began to spread in the basement area of the building just after midnight last Friday. At least three staff members were treated for smoke inhalation at the adjacent Bikur Cholim Hospital. Considering that there were people sleeping in the building, the question of whether or not the fire was intentional became even more pressing.

"Rev. Jack Sara, the pastor of the Alliance Church’s main Arabic-speaking congregation, told Israel Today that police had confirmed to him that the fire was an act of arson. He noted that had Muslims been behind the fire, they most likely would have claimed credit, thereby shifting suspicion to Orthodox Jewish extremists.

"Orthodox attacks on perceived “missionary” elements in Israel are not uncommon, and in fact have escalated in recent years, though they usually target Messianic Jews. That doesn’t mean ultra-Orthodox attacks on Christian churches are unheard of. In 2007, suspected Orthodox extremists set fire to the Narkiss Street Baptist Church in downtown Jerusalem. The same church was burned to the ground by anti-missionary elements 25 years earlier.

"Rev. Sara insisted there were no candles in the room where the fire started, and that renovations on the basement had been completed just a day before, which he said meant the fire could not be blamed on faulty wiring or other electrical problems.

"Rev. Sara was reluctant to point a finger of blame at any particular group, though he said Jewish elements are the most likely culprits, and was concerned that current speculations were being exploited for political purposes. He noted that the day after the fire, Muslim and other Arab press were the first to visit. Naturally, they painted the story as an Israeli assault on Christian freedom of worship in the Holy Land."

(For the complete report, see Ryan Jones' article Jerusalem church fire blamed on Jews, in Israel Today Magazine, November 1, 2010).

Natural Selection works only in peoples' minds

“Nature selects the fittest organisms”? Evolution has no life apart from this idea of natural selection. This “selection” is a captivatingly powerful idea—it’s difficult to dislodge things that exist only in someone’s mind. As Daniel Dennett explains, "natural selection" is the evolutionists equivalent to God:
The fundamental scientific idea of evolution by natural selection is not just mind-boggling; natural selection, by executing God’s traditional task of designing and creating all creatures great and small, also seems to deny one of the best reasons we have for believing in God….The idea that natural selection has the power to generate such sophisticated designs is deeply counterintuitive.1
The word “select” is an absolute necessity to Darwinism. But in reality, choice-making abilities have never been observed by anything other than conscious agents or by things they have designed. Life displays features apparently chosen by a designer to solve environmental problems or exploit properties such as gravity and friction. Darwin’s extraordinarily clever account attributes those features to unintelligent natural forces that somehow could “select” in a way very much akin to how animal breeders select. Thus Darwin introduced a natural source of intelligence—a substitute god.

But in recent years, evolutionists have backpedaled furiously from the idea of "selection." Graciela Flores in The Scientist argued that evolutionists feed the beast of theism by incessantly using the word “design” in publications. She made an example of Timothy Bradley’s paper in Nature, which evidently said insect respiration was “designed to function most efficiently.” Afterward Bradley conceded that the word design is subject to misinterpretation, and confessed that “there is no reason for sloppy language.” Flores also gave an example of a professor who has stopped using the word design with his students. “They are going to take the language too literally, and it will cause a misunderstanding.”2

Evolutionists' problem is this: since there is no designer, using the word “design” is fundamentally illegitimate—in spite of qualifiers like “apparent” or “illusion of” preceding it. Even Darwin himself, when pressed on this illegitimate use of the word, conceded that tying “selection” to a real agent is “false,” and his followers also admit it’s “not really accurate.”3

Advocates, therefore, insist that “selection” is not used in a literal sense. Really? Evolutionists claim their word choice is only a figure of speech—a ploy characterized as the “bait-and-switch” logical error.4 Darwin’s remarkable feat—which continues nearly unaltered—was to get everyone looking at the organism-environment interface from the environment’s perspective. External forces are illegitimately given credit for the capabilities of the organisms. It is challenging to dissect evolutionary language that clouds the fact that the power to solve ecological challenges resides in organisms and not environments.

The power of “natural selection” to imprison minds must always be taken seriously—as it’s only in the mind that “selection” actually occurs. Minds immersed in “natural selection” view interactions from the perspective of “nature’s” inanimate forces and are further clouded by being uninformed that there is no real “selector”! If the evidence points to the fact that “natural selection” is merely a figure of speech, and thus impotent, should not honest scientists put aside their passionately held beliefs and accept reality?

A distinctive of living things is their goal-directed operation—one of which is filling ecological niches. This is in obedience to God telling “them” to be “fruitful,” “multiply,” and “fill” the earth (Genesis 1:22, 28; 8:17; 9:1, 7.)

As a label applied to the normal outworking of organisms’ innate programming that enables them to fill environments, it steals credit from the organism and ultimately from the Lord. “Selection” is not really real. We should ascribe glory to the Creator, and not to “natural selection”!

Pray for Churches under attack by Muslims in Indonesia

God's flock in Indonesia is accustomed to moving hurriedly from one pasture to the next.

A group of 50 believers on the island of Java have had to move their place of worship six times. They have been hit with boards, stabbed, locked out of their church, ordered by 200 policemen to leave their church and had their church building burned to the ground. Yet they remain faithful through every move - the same 50 members moving together.

The most recent attacks, on July 10 and Aug. 8, 2010, occurred while the believers were clearing weeds from a piece of land they had purchased to use as a worship site. A Muslim mob screamed at them, calling them prostitutes and dogs. The believers responded by proclaiming, "Hallelujah!" The video here shows the mob starting their attack.

Pastor Luspida Simanjuntak, who received hospital treatment after she was struck with a wooden plank by suspected Islamic extremists in the Sept. 12 attack, said that the church was ready to stop struggling.

Pastor Luspida hospitalized
after struck with a plank
by Islamic extremists.
“We are tired of being intimidated and terrorized,” Pastor Simanjuntak said. “We will be able to worship quietly and peacefully.”

Church lawyer Saor Siagian said that the church had accepted the temporary move with the understanding that the Bekasi municipal government must fulfill its pledge. The government will build a new church building to replace the structure the church is leaving on a 2,500-square meter lot belonging to PT Timah, the Government Tin Mining Co. in the Mustika Sari area of Bekasi. The lot is zoned for general and social facilities.

Indonesia has the largest Muslim population in the world, with an estimated 205 million Muslims. The Indonesian island of Java, where these attacks occurred, is also the world's most populous island, with about 136 million people. Church closures and attacks against Christians are occurring with increasing frequency on Java and elsewhere in Indonesia.

Jesus say, "My sheep hear my voice." His sheep in Indonesia remain faithful.

Bible Professors Apologize for Young Earth Believers & Well-Meaning Tract Ladies?

 Do Bible professors need to
apologize for Bible tracts?
Bible colleges, not just seminaries, are slipping into worldly compromise with historical Biblical truth.

Timothy Yoder, professor at Philadelphia Biblical University, talks about the value of Christian Apologetics to defend the existence of God and the truth of the Bible. Then he highly recommends William Lane Craig and Dinesh D'Souza as teachers of the Apologetic method. Dr. Yoder, don't you know that William Lane Craig believes the universe is 13.7 billion years old, and that Dinesh D'Souza believes in the big bang?

In his article titled "Apologetics for the Glory of God" (PBU Today Summer 2011), this is what Yoder teaches his impressionable students:
This competition and debate regarding the existence of God, the Bible as God’s Word, the historicity of Jesus and the gospels, the creation of the world, and a host of other controversies means that one of our most important duties as Christians is to be an apologist for the faith.... Apologetics magnifies God, because it contends for the veracity of the divine revelation and message.... Apologetics is not a discipline in its own right, but rather it employs all the disciplines – theology, of course, but also philosophy, history, science, archaeology, etc. – to the project of safeguarding and championing the Christian faith.
[The apostle] Peter’s apologetic command includes the injunction to do so with gentleness and respect.... The other hand, acceptance of everything in the name of tolerance is not genuine love.
So what does Yoder offer "on the other hand," particularly with regard to the truth of God's creation account?
The well-meaning tract lady is not doing effective apologetics if all she can do is tell the Bible story. Apologetics requires a well-rounded education....  Many think that a belief in creationism means that Christianity is at war with science.
I'm sure that Dr. Yoder has much more to say if you pay for the privilege (or the privilege of your son or daughter) to attend his classes. But if you do not wish to pay $1800 for a course, you can look at his Recommended Reading list. He has 13 books listed under the category of General Apologetics and Apologetic Method. But at least five of them are by professors who definitely oppose the truth that God created the world in six literal days, or that He created Adam and Eve from the dust of the earth.

William Lane Craig is one of the Apologetics professors that Yoder recommends, with 3 books listed. As James J.S. Johnson tells us in his article Culpable Passivity: The Failure of Going with the Flow (Acts & Facts July 2011, Institute of Creation Research):
Christian professor William Lane Craig - who teaches at an "evangelical" college and claims to support the inerrancy of the Bible - was caught in an admission of culpable passivity regarding the Bible and science on Canad'as Michael Coren Show. Mr. Coren's guest was a prominent evangelical Christian professor from a California school of theology who appeared to defend the existence of God and the need for a personal relationship with God. However, when asked "How old is the world" this brilliant Christian scholar confidently stated, "The best estimates today are around 13.7 billion years." Mr. Coren was thrilled, he said "this is a position I can embrace because there are people who will sit here and say that it's six and a half thousand years old." Craig seemed amused, but concluded that such a position is not plausible.
(No doubt they were both thinking of the well-meaning tract ladies whose education was not well-rounded enough to recognize the foolishness of thinking that God could actually create the world in six days).
Craig continued, "the arguments that I give are right in line with mainstream science. I'm not buckling up against mainstream science.... I'm going with the flow with what contemporary cosmology and astrophysics support." Coren then asked, what about dinosaurs and man co-existing? "There are some 'creationists' - they typically style themselves 'young earth creationists' - who believe that," Craig stated, obviously disagreeing. The Bible, he said, gives no evidence for dinosaurs and men living together or for the young-age of the earth.
If Dr. Craig had carefully read Genesis 1-12, with attention to the quantitative data provided by God, he would have *plenty* of data from which to learn that the age of the earth is thousands of years old, not billions.

Dinesh D'Souza is another of the Apologetics professors that Yoder recommends, with 2 books listed. One is What's so Great about Christianity? Apparently the awesome creative power and truthfulness of God is not one of them. As Lita Cosner writes in her review of D'Souza's book, Mostly masterful defence of Christianity; pity it’s slack on creation:
D’Souza then takes a disappointing turn and argues that the big bang is a ‘stunning confirmation of the book of Genesis’ (p. 116), arguing that it proves a beginning around 15 billion years ago. He seems unaware of the huge problems with this theory. And what happens if secularists reject the big bang? He will have to re-interpret his re-interpretation of Genesis!

D’Souza goes on to defend not just the evolutionary timeline, but evolution itself. He even repeats the disproved assertion that man shares 98% of his DNA with apes. He argues that this is perfectly reconcilable with Scripture; since God’s image that man is made in is not physical, but spiritual, there is no problem with the physical body being derived from an ape.

However, he completely ignores the biblical account that asserts that humankind was derived not from other animals, but as a special creation distinct from animals (Genesis 1:26–28, 2:7, 21–24). He also ignores the genealogy of Jesus in Luke’s Gospel, which traces Him back to a real Adam, then directly to God, not via a line of apes (Luke 3:38). And the apostle Paul treats Adam as a real first man and ancestor of all other humans (Romans 5:12–19,9 1 Corinthians 15:21–22, 45); evolution teaches that a population of ape-like creatures evolved into a population of humans.
It is sad that Dr. Yoder does not come out and tell us what his recommended professors are teaching. It would be even better if he took a different approach, and actually defended Scripture to the hilt! It would also be suitable for an apologetics professor to analyze how the term "science" has been hijacked and replaced by speculation and just-so story telling, with the scientific method left to die by the side of the road.

It appears that Bible colleges, not just seminaries, are slipping into worldly compromise with historical Biblical truth. Please pray for a new generation of Apologetics professors who will defend God's honor, and also defend all the well-meaning tract ladies, too!

ID cards still say Religion Status = Islam

Muslim-led governments prohibit Christian converts from changing the religion status on their ID card from Islam to Christianity, and some converts are using the Muslim ID to their advantage.

One new believer told me, "I go to the annual pilgrimmage to Mecca and walk around the Kaaba with hundreds of thousands. I will ask a man walking next to me, 'Is anyone sick in your family? Can I pray for them?' As we circle the black stone, they will tell me about illnesses or problems. I will say, 'I will pray in the name of Issa, Al Masih (Jesus, the Messiah). I pray as we are walking. They thank me for the prayers."

To find yourself, Go back to the beginning, Go back to Genesis

A worldview based on random variation, natural selection, and survival of the fittest is bound to pander to the sinful self-centered nature of fallen mankind. There are grave dangers to family life, church integrity, and national survival if the evolutionary system should ever truly prevail in the hearts and minds of most people. Evolution is not so much a science as it is a philosophy or an attitude of mind—and since no one was present to watch the supposed great evolutionary changes of the past, it is manifestly impossible to prove scientifically that they actually did take place.

Where do we begin to find the antidote?

All truth, in every area of life, finds its beginning in the Genesis record of creation and the other events of primeval history. That is why God placed it first in the Bible. The greatest Bible teacher of all time was the Lord Jesus Christ and, when He wanted to teach His friends about Himself and His great plan for the world, He began by teaching them the book of Genesis, the first of the books of Moses.

We must diligently try not only to win the lost to Christ, but also to bring the world itself back to God. We must try not only to win individual scientists and educators to Christ, but also to win science itself, and education itself, to Christ. Even many churches need to be brought back to the true God of Creation and to His inspired and authoritative word (beginning at Genesis!) as their basic rule of faith and practice.

Airlines with Crosses not allowed over Saudi Arabia

Swiss International Air Lines is not allowed to fly over Mecca because their planes are painted with the white Swiss cross. The airline no longer flies its cross-emblazoned planes into the country of Saudi Arabia, but the spiritual leaders of Saudi Arabia cannot ban the cross of Jesus imprinted on the hearts of Muslims who accept Jesus as Lord!

Godless theories can't explain planets surrounding other stars

An illustration of a planet with a highly
inclined orbit found around
the star HAT-P-11.
Geoff Marcy, Professor of Astronomy at the University of California, Berkeley, is famous for discovering more extrasolar planets than anyone else, 70 out of the first 100 to be discovered.  So it comes as some surprise that Professor Marcy has concluded: “The more new planets we find, the less we seem to know about how planetary systems are born. We cannot apply theories that fit our solar system to other systems. In theory, other stars with planets should have gotten similar starts. But theory has implications not born out in reality.”

Planetary orbits should be circular, but many extrasolar planets have elliptical orbits. Everything should orbit in the same plane and direction, but many have highly inclined or even retrograde orbits; Neptune-sized planets should be rare, since models of our water giants require highly unusual starting conditions. But there are too many out there. Marcy told the American Astronomical Society last month: “Theory has struck out.”

Marko comments: First, Marcy's conclusions show that our wonderful Earth is indeed a Privileged Planet, just as astronomer Dr. Guillermo Gonzalez found to be true in his research, and ended up being denied tenure at Iowa State University because this ran afoul of the godless scientific establishment. Second, godless theories can't explain planets surrounding other stars. They are yet another sign of our wonderful Creator God!

Want a True Stimulus? Thorium Reactors instead of Oil in Just Five Years

An abundant metal with vast energy potential could quickly wean the world off oil, if only Western political leaders would muster the will to do it, a UK newspaper says. James Quinn of The Telegraph makes the case for thorium reactors as the key to a fossil-fuel-free world within five years, and puts the ball firmly in President Barack Obama's court, see his article Obama could kill fossil fuels overnight with a nuclear dash for thorium.

Thorium, named for the Norse god of thunder, is much more abundant than uranium and has 200 times that metal's energy potential. Thorium is also a more efficient fuel source -- unlike natural uranium, which must be highly refined before it can be used in nuclear reactors, all thorium is potentially usable as fuel. It is so abundant that it's almost an annoyance. Thorium is considered a waste product when mining for rare-earth metals.

The Telegraph says a $1.8 billion (£1.2 billion) project could lead to a network of tiny underground nuclear reactors, producing about 600 MW each. Their wee size would negate the enormous security apparatus required of full-size nuclear power plants. Thorium also solves the non-proliferation problem. Nuclear non-proliferation treaties (NPT) prohibit processes that can yield atomic bomb ingredients, making it difficult to refine highly radioactive isotopes. But thorium-based accelerator-driven plants only produce a small amount of plutonium, which could allow the U.S. and other nations to skirt NPT.

The Telegraph says Obama needs a Roosevelt moment, recalling the famous breakfast meeting when Albert Einstein convinced the president to start the Manhattan Project. A thorium stimulus could be just what the lagging economy needs.

(Summarized from Rebecca Boyle, Development of Tiny Thorium Reactors Could Wean the World Off Oil In Just Five Years, Popular Science, August 2010)

Newer nuclear reactor designs, collectively called Generation IV, include the thorium-powered molten-salt reactor (MSR). In an MSR, liquid thorium would replace the solid uranium fuel used in today’s plants, a change that would make meltdowns all but impossible.

MSRs were developed at Tennessee’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the early 1960s and ran for a total of 22,000 hours between 1965 and 1969. “It was not a full system, but it showed you could successfully design and operate a molten-salt reactor,” says Oak Ridge physicist Jess Gehin, a senior program manager in the lab’s Nuclear Technology Programs office.

The MSR design has two primary safety advantages. Its liquid fuel remains at much lower pressures than the solid fuel in light-water plants. This greatly decreases the likelihood of an accident, such as the hydrogen explosions that occurred at Fukushima. Further, in the event of a power outage, a frozen salt plug within the reactor melts and the liquid fuel passively drains into tanks where it solidifes, stopping the fission reaction. “The molten-salt reactor is walk-away safe,” Kutsch says. “If you just abandoned it, it had no power, and the end of the world came--a comet hit Earth--it would cool down and solidify by itself.”

Because of this efficiency, a thorium MSR would produce far less waste than today’s plants. Uranium-based waste will remain hazardous for tens of thousands of years. With thorium, it’s more like a few hundred. As well, raw thorium is not fissile in and of itself, so it is not easily weaponized. “It can’t be used as a bomb,” Kutsch says. “You could have 1,000 pounds in your basement, and nothing would happen.”

One ton of thorium: as much energy
as 200 tons of uranium
One nuclear plant provides the energy equivalent of 1,200 windmills or 20 square miles of solar panels.Without the need for large cooling towers, MSRs can be much smaller than typical light-water plants, both physically and in power capacity. Today’s average nuclear power plant generates about 1,000 megawatts. A thorium-fueled MSR might generate as little as 50 megawatts. Smaller, more numerous plants could save on transmission loss (which can be up to 30 percent on the present grid). The U.S. Army is interested in using MSRs to power individual bases, Kutsch says, and Google, which relies on steady power to keep its servers running, held a conference on thorium reactors last year. “The company would love to have a 70- or 80-megawatt reactor sitting next door to a data center,” Kutsch says.

Even with military and corporate support, the transition to a new type of nuclear power generation is likely to be slow, at least in the U.S. Light-water reactors are already established, and no regulations exist to govern other reactor designs. Outside the U.S., the transition could come more quickly.

In January 2011 the Chinese government launched a thorium reactor program. “The Chinese Academy of Sciences has approved development of an MSR with relatively near-term deployment--maybe 10 years,” says Gehin, who thinks the Chinese decision may increase work on the technology worldwide. Even after Fukushima, “there’s still interest in advanced nuclear,” he says. “I don’t see that changing.”

Sevgi, the Muslim physical therapist, finds answers

Late last year, Sevgi, a Muslim physical therapist in Asia Minor, turned on her television and stumbled upon some Christian programming. She was drawn into the message and later told her husband and daughter about it. Soon the entire family was watching the show and obtained a copy of the New Testament! Although Sevgi and her family read it eagerly, Sevgi had many questions, such as "Has the Bible really been changed as we've always been taught?" and "What is really the truth?." Sevgi longed for someone to talk with about them.

As God so often works, He used an ordinary situation to reveal the truth to Sevgi. Jeff, a young missionary, was struggling with back pain and needed to see a therapist. A co-worker recommended Sevgi. After a few appointments, God opened the door for them to talk about spiritual things. Now each therapy session concludes with a Bible study and Sevgi has been getting answers to her questions!
